Women's Day 2025 at UZ

All the events planned at the University of Zielona Góra as part of the International Women's Day celebrations have now concluded.

Big Band UZ Concert – "Her Portrait"

The celebrations began in the University of Zielona Góra auditorium on the evening of Thursday, March 6, with a concert by Big Band UZ titled "Her Portrait." The central theme of the performed pieces was, of course, the woman.

Big Band UZ presented musical and literary works by Polish artists in new arrangements. The concert was conducted by Prof. Jerzy Szymaniuk, head of the Department of Conducting and Instrumental Studies at UZ. The repertoire included works from distinguished poets and composers such as Agnieszka Osiecka, Wojciech Młynarski, Jerzy Wasowski, Jeremi Przybora, Jacek Mikuła, Marek Dutkiewicz, Aleksander Bem, Kazimierz Winkler, Adam Kawa, Jerzy Horwath, Tadeusz Sygietyński, Bogdan Olewicz, Marek Stefankiewicz, Janusz Odrowąż, Romuald Żyliński, Marek Skolarski, and Marian Siejka.

The stage featured vocal chamber ensembles, trios, and quartets, including a male quartet that performed the hit "Serduszko puka w rytmie cha-cha." The concert also showcased mature and deeply emotional original compositions by students. One of the musical surprises of the evening was Leszek Jenek, who hosted the event and performed "Sto lat" for the audience using various instruments.

Charity Concert – "Women’s Symphony of Support"

On Sunday, March 9, another musical evening awaited the guests at the Regional Center for Cultural Animation – the charity concert "Women’s Symphony of Support."

Besides the artistic experience, the event had a noble purpose: a fundraising campaign was conducted to support the Clinical Oncology Department and Hematology Department of the University Hospital in Zielona Góra. The concert aimed to highlight the beauty and strength of women battling oncological diseases and striving for recovery. Students from the Institute of Music at UZ performed on the stage. The event was co-organized by the Psycho-oncology Student Research Group "Żonkil" under the patronage of the Polish Surgery and Oncology Foundation named after Paweł Murawa.

The event took place in the palm house of Building A-16 and was attended not only by women but also by other interested individuals. The open discussion format created space for exchanging experiences and thoughts.

Women's Fitness – "Girl Power"

The final event of the Women's Day 2025 celebrations at UZ was a fitness training session – "Girl Power," held on March 19. This was the second edition of the sports event, which continues to enjoy great popularity. Over 170 students and university staff participated in the group workout at the sports hall of UZ on Prof. Z. Szafran Street. The session was led by Martyna Dalecka, a fitness instructor from the Department of Sports and Health Promotion at UZ.

With endorphins, smiles, and great fun, the Women's Day celebrations came to a close. The participants proved that they are strong and empowered!
